Norton Commando flasher unit and headlight

It is past half of October and it is almost like summer; sunny and blue skies, 25 degrees Celsius, soft breeze .. It is the 3rd or 4th year in a row where autumn more looks like spring. After some thinking I’ve picked up the problem with the flasher unit. When I first wanted to replace it, it wasn’t anything I expected; it was already replaced once and didn’t have the Lucas flasher unit but a Nippondenso JFK flasher unit and the wires weren’t original neither. So when I tried to replace the flasher unit, I fried the first, the second turned on the turn signals but didn’t blink but now I finally got it; I ordered an original Lucas flasher unit, 2 contacts and not 3, which did the trick.


Rather than a Lucas flasher unit, the Norton had a Nippondenso JFK 080 unit similar to this one

After replacing the Nippondenso flasher with an original Lucas, it finally solved the problem of slow blinking or even stopped blinking turn signals. Even if the original Lucas may not be the most reliable flasher unit, it works perfectly for the time being.

Het is half october maar het lijkt wel zomer; zonnig en blauwe lucht, 25 graden Celsius, zacht windje .. Het is nu het derde of vierde jaar op rij dat de herfst meer op de lente lijkt. Na enig nadenken heb ik het probleem met de clignoteur en de richting aanwijzers weer opgepakt. Toen ik deze eerst wilde vervangen ging dat niet als gedacht; de clignoteur was schijnbaar al eens vervangen en was niet de originele lucas clignoteur maar een Nippondenso JFK clignoteur met andere dan de originele bedrading. Toen ik deze wilde vervangen brandde de eerste gelijk door, bij de tweede poging bleven de knipperlichten aan staan zonder te knipperen maar nu zou het goed moeten zijn; met een originele Lucas clignoteur, 2 contacten en geen 3, wat eindelijk werkt.

Na de Nippondenso clignoteur te hebben vervangen met een originele Lucas, is nu eindelijk het probleem van de langzaam knipperende of blijvend brandende knipperlichten verholpen. Ook als de originele bi-metalen Lucas niet als de meest betrouwbare mag gelden, werkt deze vooralsnog prima.

Mi- Octobre passé mais ça ressemble à l’été; du soleil et ciel bleu, 25 degrées Celsius, un peu de vent .. C’est la 3ième ou 4ième année de suite où l’automne fait plutôt penser au printemps. Après une période de réflection j’ai attaqué à nouveau le problème avec la centrale clignotante. Quand j’ai voulu la remplacer ce n’était pas de tout ce que je pensais; à priori la centrale clignotante était déjà remplacé un fois et n’était plus la pièce de Lucas d’origine mais une centrale clignotante Nippondenso JFK avec des autres fils. La première que j’ai essayé a fait un court-circuit, avec la deuxième les indicateurs de direction s’allumaient mais sans clignoter mais maintenant ça devrait être bon; J’avais commandé une centrale clignotante Lucas d’origine, avec 2 contacts au lieu de 3, qui fonctionne correctement.

Après avoir remplacé la centrale clignotante Nippondenso avec une Lucas d’origine, les problèmes des lenteurs de clignotements ou même restaient allumés en permanence était résolu. Même si la pièce Lucas ne semble pas la plus fiable sur la marché, ça fonctionne parfaitement pour l’instant.

I ve a 1975 Norton Commando which is positive earth and I d like to convert the standard Lucas indicators and Lucas large (rectangular type) rear lamp to LED bulbs. Do your bulbs fit these and if so what do I need?

Hi, there may be a misunderstanding, I’m not selling any led bulbs (or other Norton parts for that matter) myself. I’ve got a Commando 850 Mk1a and was thinking about fitting LED lights but in the end the problem of slow blinking turn signals appeared to be an old and used up flasher unit. So I didn’t go through with it (actually I prefer my Norton to stay as original as possible).
But 12V positive earth LED bulbs do exist, or even bulbs with no polarity (will work on as well positive as negative earth but they are more expensive).
LED bulbs and a tail/stop light for the rectangular Lucas rear light are available on several website (mostly UK), for instance here : http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyleds.htm
